skills shortage of cooksTourism industry skills shortage is rising in Australia due to a surge of visitors. The influx of tourists has created boom-like conditions but also coincides with a climbing unemployment rate.

Visitors have grown to 12% in the past year. Skills shortage in the industry, specifically chefs and cooks, are rising from the increased growth of cafes and restaurants. Additionally, there are 120 different careers in the industry that tourism operators are having difficulty to find the right person that they need.

Robyn Ironside of News Corp Australia Network reports that Tourism Australia’s Managing Director John O’Sullivan said more public awareness was needed on the sort of career opportunities presented by tourism and hospitality.
