Australian visaA new Australian visa category provides pathway to permanent residency. The new visa is now open to new applications. It hopes to attract and retain the best and the brightest entrepreneurial talent.

In an SBS report, Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton said the Government was driving economic growth through innovation.

Mr. Dutton added that the new Entrepreneur visa provides a pathway to permanent residency and allows entrepreneurs funding of $200,000.

The report adds that changes to the points test for skilled migration have also been made effective on September 22. The changes hope to attract international students who have completed Australian postgraduate research qualifications. Specifically, qualifications in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics field. These graduates will be granted additional points under the skilled migration program.

Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science Greg Hunt said these new initiatives will complement the wider National Innovation and Science Agenda.
