skilled migration programThe Department of Immigration announced an important change in the points test for the Skilled Migration Program.

The points test will now have an additional five points to students of Australian institutions. Specifically for students with doctorate-level and masters by research qualifications in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM) and information and communication technology fields.

The National Innovation and Science Agenda has brought about this change in order to attract the ‘best and the brightest’ skilled people to Australia

This change came into effect on 10 September 2016.

The skilled migration program is a highly competitive program designed to be responsive to Australian labour market conditions. Eligibility for this program may be determined by the requirements in place at the time a person seeks an application.
